Professor. Coach. Creator.

Dr. Brian Gearity (aka Dr. G) is a tenured Professor in the Kinesiology and Sport Studies program at the University of Denver (DU). He was hired by DU in 2014 to be the founding directer of one of the first fully online Master of Arts in Sport Coaching degrees in the world. Under his leadership, the degree launched in 2015 and he has taught in that program since. Subsequently, he created and launched graduate certificate degrees in Strength, Conditioning, and Fitness Coaching and in the Psychology of Coaching. Next, he turned his visionary eye towards launching the undergraduate Kinesiology and Sport Studies program, which started as a minor in 2021, then a Bachelor of Arts in 2023, and a Bachelor of Science in 2025. As the degrees grew, so did the faculty and staff to support and co-lead the programs. Alongside his colleagues, they launched an undergraduate concentration in Strength, Conditioning, and Fitness Coaching in 2024 and both the undergraduate degree and graduate certificate became accredited with the Council for the Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education.

Earlier in his career, Dr. G was a strength and conditioning coach with the Cleveland Guardians Baseball Team, University of Tennessee, and numerous youth sports, particularly seven years coaching middle school and high school football.

Dr. G received his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education & Exercise Science from John Carroll University, his Master of Science in Human Performance and Sport Studies and Ph.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Tennessee, and an MBA with a concentration in Executive Leadership and a Specialized Graduate Certificate in Creative Nonfiction from DU.
